The project is called “Fishing with 3G Nets” and was officially launched in August after almost two years of negotiations led by USAID. The goal of the effort is to promote economic development of the local fishing community using digital technology. The project provides broadband access, 3G mobile Internet, custom applications for managing fishing businesses, equipment, and training through a partnership between USAID/Brazil, the city of Cabrália, IABS (Brazil Sustainable Environmental Institute), and technology companies Qualcomm, Vivo, and ZTE.
