Anne-Gaelle Javelle, Senior Associate at the World Resources Institute (WRI), and Peter Veit, Project Manager for the Equity, Poverty, and Environment Initiative at WRI have looked at overlaps between protected areas and mining concessions. They examined the case study of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) which is expecting huge changes to its mining industry brought about from recent legislature passed in the United States. Other nations around the world are watching closely to see the impacts of this transboundary policy, which also influenced the presidential elections in the DRC.
