Held on the 28th of September 2011 – Miatta Conference Center – Freetown, Sierra Leone
A Ministerial Meeting of the Mano River Union (MRU) was convened on the 28th of September, 2011 in Freetown on Sustainable Environmental Conservation and Management Policy aimed at achieving these main objectives:
1) Agreeing on the content of the final report prepared by consultants with support from USAID/STEWARD on national laws, policies, regulations, and procedures of MRU member states including international conventions they have acceded to on natural resource management;
2) Agree on action plans, each member state is expected to carry out with associated timelines for implementation;
3) Agree on areas where harmonization is required and responsibilities of critical stakeholders.
In addition to delegations of member states, the meeting was attended by the MRU Secretariat, the US Ambassador to Sierra Leone, the Liberian Ambassador to Sierra Leone, representatives of the AU commission, NGOs dealing with environmental conservation, civil society, and the press. The meeting was supported by USAID and the African Union.
