face au changement climatique, les meilleures pratiques d'adaptation en gestion de l'eau pourraient se baser sur la restauration des tètes de sources,mise à l'état des lieux par des espèces végétales appropriées, la restauration du couvert végétal le long des berges des cours d'eaux,prévenir l'érosion et la dégradation du sol, éviter l'ensablement du lit des cours d'eau, ne pas gaspiller l'eau qui est une source de vie.

une des meilleures manières efficaces de mesures et des méthodes de gestion intégrée et participative de l'eau dans les zones arides d'Afrique est la gestion rationnelle de l'eau
l'exemple va se porter sur les falèses de Bandiagara au pays Dogon en republique du Mali ou la pluviométrie est l'une des plus basses en Afrique de l'ouest et pourtant gràce à l'utilisation rationnelle et équitable de l'eau. 50 calebasses par famille et par jour sans distinction entre le riche et le pauvre les Dogons sont aujourd'hui les premiers producteurs d'oignons rouges d'Afrique de l'ouest.
