Presentation given at a roundtable for groups working towards REDD (reducing emissions from deforestation and ecosystem degradation) schemes- USAID Biodiversity and Forestry Seminar Series, November 6, 2008.

Facilitated by USAID's Biodiversity & Forestry, Land Resources Management and Global Climate Change Teams

This roundtable gave groups such as Winrock, IUCN, Wildlife Conservation Society, Forest Trends and Conservation International, which are actively working toward REDD opportunities, a chance to describe their sites, strategies and models in terms of benefits to local communities as well as ecosystem and biodiversity benefits. They compared and contrasted different experiences and models to tease out trade-offs between approaches in terms of feasibility, conservation impact, equity and links to poverty reduction. The discussion focused on the creation of a learning group to track and assess different approaches and REDD sites.
