To share information about new initiatives, long-term plans, and opportunities for conservation collaboration by different U.S.-based organizations working on the ground in the Congo basin, the Africa Biodiversity Collaborative Group (ABCG) hosted an October 2001 Meeting. The meeting was a follow-up to the September 2000 ABCG Meeting on "Gaps and Opportunities in the Congo Basin." It provided an opportunity to reflect upon the changes that had occurred over the past year, and determine what progress had been made on the conservation gaps that were previously identified. This meeting was chaired by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and hosted by World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Presentations were made by USAID's Central African Regional Program for the Environment (CARPE), WWF, WCS, World Resources Institute, African Wildlife Foundation, Conservation International, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Other participating organizations included Biodiversity Support Program, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Interagency Planning Group on Environmental Funds, University of Maryland- NASA, Innovative Resources Management, and the Bushmeat Crisis Task Force.
