Environmental Impacts of Avian Influenza in Africa

On 7 December 2005, the Africa Biodiversity Collaborative Group organized a brainstorming session to discuss the environmental impacts of Avian Flu in Africa and what the conservation community can do.

The objectives of the meeting were to:

• learn about a recent Avian Influenza preparedness assessment in Africa.
• discuss the potential environmental and conservation impacts of Avian Influenza, especially for migratory birds in Africa.
• talk about the social, economic, and development impacts of Avian Influenza in Africa.
• brainstorm about what can be done by the conservation community and potential coping strategies.
